Boston Red Sox, David Ortiz Wins 2010 State Farm Home Run Derby
Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz put on a show in Angels Stadium Monday night in the 2010 State Farm Home Run Derby.
The Home Run Derby consists of eight players, four from each league. Each hitter gets to chose his pitcher from family, friends, teammates, coaches (current and former). The top four players advance from the first round to the second, and the top tow out of those four in the next round advance to the final. Home run totals are wiped clean for the final round, and players have another 10 outs to hit as many home runs as possible.
The 10th out in each round is thrown with a golden money ball. State Farm is donating $3,000 for each home run hit in the contest, and $17,000 will be donated for each golden ball hit.
David Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox was participating in the fourth contest of his career with his six-year old son D’Angelo running around.
Hanley Ramirez took Ortiz the distance, and matched his total score in the first and second rounds to force a spectacular final.
