LeBron will attend the Annual Bikeathon in Akron
LeBron James will be back to South Main, instead of South Beach, Saturday for the Fifth Annual LeBron’s State Farm King for Kids Bikeathon.
LeBron has provided more than 1,600 bicycles from the James Foundation since it was created in 2005 and another 400 will be distributed this year.
There is one difference, however, the ride will only last for one mile. Akron leaders decided they could not justify spending the usual $25,000 for security and staff.
Deputy Mayor David Lieberth said the elimination made the most sense on all fronts. “The combination of us putting forth substantial resources for the 8-mile bikeathon and the lack of riders made the decision inevitable to cancel the 8-mile ride and focus on the most important part of the bikeathon,” he stated.
